The Seymour tie to the Newbery Medal 2020!

This is the exciting time of year when we find out the winners of children’s book awards. This year the Caldecott medal winner (illustrations) is The Undefeated by

Kwame Alexander and the Newbery medal winner (most distinguished contribution/content) is New Kid by Jerry Craft. This is the first graphic novel to win the Newbery!

We have a tie to the Newbery selection committee. Our very own Jenna Friebel (nee Goodall) is on the committee. Jenna was a free intern at our library during the summer of 2012! We knew she was going places for sure when we worked with her. We are so proud of her. This is amazing! Working with the committee, Jenna helped choosed the medal winner and four Newbery honors. One honor was Undefeated which won the Caldecott. Wow! The other three honored titles were Genesis Begins Again, Other Words for Home, and Scary Stories for Young Foxes that Jenna is holding in this picture!
