MINUTES FOR FMPL  MEETING
April 19, 2012
6:30 PM

Present: Deloris Clausen, Holly Collar, Diane DuFour, Jeff Crooks, Kris Peters, Elizabeth Timmins

1)   Vice-President Holly Collar called the meeting to order at 6:30 pm.

2)   Additions to the agenda:  Donation to Fox Cities Book Festival; National Volunteer Week May 14, 2012

3)   Minutes. Jeff Crooks moved to accept the March minutes; Deloris Clausen seconded; motion passed

4)   Treasurer’s Report. Jeff Crooks reported no income for March but there will be a lot for April and this was due to a timing issue with deposits. Elizabeth thanked the Friends for paying for Culligan. Deloris Clausen moved to accept the March Treasurer’s Report. Kris Peters seconded. Motion passed.

5)   Committee, Activity, and Events Reports:
a) Chocolate Bar Sales – Patrons enjoy the $1 bargain.
b) Membership – Nothing new to report.

6) Old Business:

a) 501 © 3 progress—Still nothing to report. This is getting annoying. The check was cashed by the government. ET will investigate.
b) Shakespeare program—Shakespeare was remarkable—Yay! Thanks for FMPL for doing this. It is a program to be proud of!
c)  Report on Fox Cities Book Festival—Venues around the Fox Cities. Holly reported on seeing Sandra Kring (Little Chute Library) and Rachel Simon (Neenah Library) with Elizabeth. Holly will send in a suggestion that the paper copies of the schedule be out earlier so people can make plans. There was discussion about a donation from our group which Elizabeth advocated since the Festival offers a rich menu of choices for our patrons FOR FREE. Also, Elizabeth gets good contacts for our library from this Festival. This is how Elizabeth was tipped off to bring Nancy Carlson to our library in March, 2011. Jeff made a motion to give $100 to the Festival. Kris seconded. The motion carried. Yippee FMPL! Holly will send in the check with the evaluation form she picked up @ the Festival.
d) Report on World Book Night, April 23, 2012—Muehl Public Library is a distribution point this year for three volunteers, Darla Dorosz, Toni Goodall, and Sheila St.Thomas. Books were sent to the library by Ingram. 20 of each title. Elizabeth handed those out April 16 and they will be distributed in our community on April 23, 2012. We hope interest will grow next year and perhaps we can throw a “launching party”. You can educate yourself about this fine cause @ http://www.us.worldbooknight.org/
e)Amnesty Day results—82 patrons cleared for a total in the realm of $715. Our annual goodwill gesture helps people get a fresh start.
f)BWB and preparations for the April Sale—Thanks to Paul and Paula for working several sessions to get a BWB shipment sent. Holly Collar’s article made the paper. Thanks Holly! Half sheet handouts have been made and are being distributed. Posters are hung. Sign is on the marquee (thanks, Paul). Sign up sheets are set in two places, hallway and counter. ET has an exciting collaboration with Paula Rohm & Judy Rottier whose confirmation class will do the teardown this year. We still need volunteers for the sale. Deloris has recruited her neighbor Carol to help with set up.
Thursday, April 26 @ noon set up will begin.
(Note from ET May 1, 2012—book sale is done and income was a whopping total of $785.23!)
g) During National Library Week there was a great show on WPR, Kathleen Dunn, about Wisconsin Libraries. A library director and a foundation director spoke. You can listen to the podcast by downloading @ http://wpr.org/wcast/download-mp3-request.cfm?mp3file=dun120409e.mp3&iNo...

7) New Business:

a) Happy Movie. We will cross promote with churches and schools. This is an example of an opportunity because of ETs affiliation with the Book Festival!
From the e.mail invite:
January, a group of people inspired by Appleton's declaration to be a Compassionate City worked together to arrange for a screening of The Happy Movie. The documentary, which creatively explores what makes people genuinely happy all over the world, was shown at Appleton Public Library, Lawrence University, and North High School. The total attendance at all showings was over 900, exceeding all expectations. Discussion following the showings was led by various members of our group.
We would like to invite you to be part of extending the free screenings of The Happy Movie to other communities. Our vision is to have a screening at one library every other month. Our group will cover the screening fee, make the arrangements to show the movie, and provide discussion leaders.  (If your own staff would like to lead or participate in leading the discussion, that would be fine, too.)  We would ask that you publicize the movie to your patrons and provide a room and video projector for the screening.
Elizabeth replied that we would like to screen this in January or March of 2013!
b) Alinea, May 17th, prior to FMPL meeting. A consultant from Milwaukee will do a free consultation with us from 5 to 6 p.m. about plans for expansion. ET would like to construct in 2014 when the current facility is 20 years old. Invitations will be sent to Elizabeth’s “Dream Team” which of course includes FMPL members and Board of Trustees members. Stay tuned!
c)Summer Reading, DREAM BIG! Elizabeth doesn’t have a calendar yet. This is in progress but she has to implement the ‘Share the Driving’ library conference that she is in charge of in Stevens Point (5. 9 thru 5.11) FIRST!
d) Donation to Fox Cities Book Festival—we took care of during discussion of the Festival above. Thank you.
e)National Volunteer Week. Elizabeth requested that volunteer Carol Pierre be acknowledged. Jeff made a motion that flowers and a $50 gift card to Reader’s Loft be given to Carol Pierre by FMPL. Kris seconded. Motion carried. Holly will take care of this for us and be reimbursed by Jeff! Thank you Holly and FMPL!

8) Inspiration: ET shared some “dumbest headlines” that Pat Lipp had forwarded to her. Some were:
Total lunar eclipse will be broadcast live on Northwoods Public Radio.
Right to bare arms, in a responsible way
Rally against apathy draws small crowd

9) Adjournment: Deloris Clausen moved that the meeting be adjourned; Jeff Crooks seconded; motion passed.  Meeting adjourned at 7:15 pm. (We would later find out that this was the afternoon Dana Werner entered the hospital. L)

Respectfully submitted,
Elizabeth M. Timmins
On behalf of Paul Gregg, Secretary

[May 2, 2012 note from Paul Gregg -- Thanks so very much Elizabeth, for taking these very informative minutes when I was away on FMPL meeting day.  See all you FMPL folks againon May 17, 2012 of this busy year.]
